BYU loses second-leading receiver to season-ending injury

A very physical and punishing loss to Wisconsin Saturday came at a steep cost for BYU on the personnel front.

Wide receiver Mitch Mathews suffered a shoulder injury in the Badgers game and will be lost for the remainder of the 2013 season, the school announced Monday. The sophomore will undergo surgery at some point in the near future to repair the damage.

Mathews is second on the Cougars in receiving yards (397) and receiving touchdowns (four), while he’s tied for second with 23.

In addition to Mathews, starting linebacker Spencer Hadley was injured in the loss to the Badgers. Hadley, who missed a handful of games earlier this season due to suspension, has already been ruled out of the game against FCS-level Idaho State due to an MCL injury, but could return the following week against Notre Dame.
