Old Dominion, Virginia Tech schedule four-game series

Rhode Island Old Dominion Football

Old Dominion will officially become an FBS program in 2014, but secured a series with a big-time opponent on Thursday.

Old Dominion and Virginia Tech agreed to a four-game series, with games in Norfolk in 2022 and 2024 coupled with games in Blacksburg in 2023 and 2025. Old Dominion and Virginia Tech already agreed to a three-game series, with contests at Virginia Tech in 2017 and 2019 and a game at Old Dominion in 2018.

Beginning in 2014, Old Dominion will become part of Conference USA. Per the Virginian-Pilot’s Harry Minium, Old Dominion hopes to have either Virginia Tech or Virginia on its schedule every year.

It’s been a pretty good week for the Monarchs, who picked up their first win over an FBS team in beating Idaho, 58-39, at the Kibbie Dome on Saturday.

Nice to see an AQ conference team playing a real home-and-home with an in-state school from a non-AQ conference. More schools should follow VTech’s example.
