Jameis Winston shows no signs of distraction, off to hot start against Syracuse

Given all the off-the-field drama that’s been surrounding Jameis Winston this week, one would forgive him if he came out unfocused and flat against Syracuse on Saturday.

But that’s not what happened.

The redshirt freshman once again showed why he’s the Heisman front runner, completing 19 of 21 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns as the No. 2 Seminoles blew the doors off the Orange in the first half in Tallahassee, 38 to 0.

Winston sprayed the ball to five different receivers as the Seminoles offense piled up 15 first downs and 359 first-half yards. Given FSU’s hot start, it’s not likely that we’ll see Winston much beyond the third quarter, but he did more than enough to maintain his status as the leader in the Heisman race.

As for FSU, it doesn’t look like anyone left on the schedule has the athletes to take them down. The No. 1 enemy for the Seminoles from here on out might be complacency.
