Iron Bowl set for afternoon kickoff

Nov. 30’s epic Alabama-Auburn clash will kick off at 3:30 (EST) on CBS, so you have a dozen days to clear your afternoon for college football’s biggest game of the year.

Auburn sits at No. 6 in the BCS, and with the game at Jordan-Hare Stadium conceivably has the best chance to knock off Alabama of anyone this year. Given the late-season nature of the game and the intense, historic nature of the Iron Bowl rivalry, the buildup and magnitude of this game will easily surpass that of Alabama-Texas A&M in September.

Alabama has a tune-up against FCS-level Chattanooga this weekend, while Auburn is off. The winner will go to the SEC Championship -- if it’s Alabama, it’d tee up the Tide for another trip to the BCS Championship with a win over Mizzou or South Carolina. If it’s Auburn, a win in the SEC Championship coupled with some attrition at the top of the BCS (losses by, say, Ohio State and Baylor) could open the door for Gus Malzahn’s Tigers to play for a title in their coach’s first year.

Now may be a good time remind everyone that a team from Alabama has won the last four national titles.
