UCLA’s Torian White arrested on suspicion of sexual assault

Unfortunately, yet another player at a major college football program has found himself embroiled in an incident involving the words “sexual” and “assault.”  This time, however, there’s actually been an arrest made.

In a press release sent out by the university Tuesday afternoon, it was confirmed that UCLA offensive lineman Torian White has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.  The release stated that White was arrested at around 3 a.m. local time today at an off-campus apartment complex after police officers responded to a disturbance.

No other details have been released at this time.

“We are aware of the situation involving Torian White, and we take these accusations very seriously,” coach Jim Mora said in a statement. “Torian has been suspended from the team indefinitely while the legal process and student discipline process run their course. Due to the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to discuss this matter further at this time.”

After starting all 14 games as a redshirt freshman last season, White started the first five games this season before suffering a broken ankle in early October.  The left tackle has not played since the injury.

    WTH?… How does a guy with a bum foot sexually assault someone. Sounds a little fishy as I’m puzzled at why she couldn’t run from him, or fight him off. Someone with a broken ankle wont have the best mobility and a one legged attacker should have tilted the odds in her favor….

    Umm… DHardy, the guy is a football player.

    It should also be noted, dhardy, that sexual assault doesn’t always mean forced to have intercourse against will.

    For instance, I don’t claim to know the laws of Florida, but in some states Richie Incognito’s little golf club thing to the woman at the golf tournament COULD have been considered sexual assault. Certainly not to the most serious degree but on some level.

    @dhardy8207 …

    In one case, an actor who’d lost his left leg and arm in a motorcycle accident later went to prison for sexual molestation. A guy in a cast can still move and can still pin someone–and as others have said, sexual assault can include different acts. At the very least, the police felt they had probable cause to make an arrest.

    Guys, I think dhardy was being sarcastic. If he wasn’t then he’s a moron. Either way I got a chuckle out of it.

    @thraiderskin; Yes I’m am aware that this is a football player as we are on a college football blog. Thanks for pointing that out just incase I missed that.

    @Youcan’tmakemepickausername: What Icognito did to the woman at the golf course from what I have read on the subject is Sexual Harrassment. I suppose you do have a point that it would depend on state law.

    I took note of certain points such as it was 3 am when the police received the call/complaint and at an off campus apartment. A guy with a “broken foot” as early as October would still have some mobility issues. He has not played “since an injury his right leg against Utah on Oct. 3. He required surgery to repair a broken bone and torn ligament.” That kind of injury would restrict someone quite a bit. Also this is the kid that had to undergo a cardiac procedure I believe to rid him of an extra pathway that was causing him to have arrhythmias that can be life threatening.

    I just find it hard to believe that they arrested him for words, accussations, or sexually explicit innuendo. I’m not bashing women as I am female, but lets be honest here there are alot of females out there that target these young men, just as many as there are young men that think because they play football can do such things and not be held accountable.

    @dhardy8207 …

    Hey … didn’t know you’re female! In some cases (usually when money is involved), women target athletes for assault accusations. In others involving students who may or may not be athletes, the political dynamic on college campuses has blurred the lines as to what is and isn’t assault. And sometimes, accusations are accurate. It’s impossible to know until more information is released.

    When I said assault includes different acts, I wasn’t referring to anything verbal but to different levels of physical assault that may or may not include vaginal rape. The one thing we do know in this case is that the authorites did at least have probable cause to believe a crime occurred and that this person committed the crime. That’s more than they have with Jameis Winston or in many other high-profile cases involving athletes. That doesn’t mean this player is guilty. But it does mean this situation is more serious.

    @ Deb; Yes hun I’m female!… Thought that was one of the reasons I catch hell when I post something, that and I’m a BAMA fan. You know on these blogs thats really all it takes to cause a frenzy of derrogatory responses from the territorial males on here. I swear sometimes I can invision them all hiking their leg simultaneoulsy!…..

    I have grown a little skeptical of these type stories just for that very reason. You know by nature women can be scornful beings and do alot of stupid things based off emotions. I guess being the younger sister of 4 brothers, I had to grow up fighting my way along. I also endured a divorce because of an alcoholic and his desire to try and go upside my head when he thought it necessary. I can happily sit here and say I survived. I’ve had to fight several times and because of that previous brotherly survival training I always came out unscathed. I just can’t see a guy forcing himself on me with those type of injuries. I might catch a hit or two but his ass would know he’s picked the wrong one!

    @dhardy8207 …

    Yes, I’m a survivor of many tough battles, too. :) But you’d be surprised the damage a guy with that size and strength can inflict–despite those injuries–given the right circumstances. We just have to wait and see.

    If this is so, then I hope he never suits up for the Bruins again. We don’t need that kind of man.
