You didn’t really think Alabama would be showing off much this weekend at home against Chattanooga with Auburn sitting at home this weekend, resting up and preparing for the Iron Bowl next week, did you? Alabama leads the FCS visitors 28-0 at halftime.
Most times that kind of score might raise an eye brow, but that should not be the case this weekend in Tuscaloosa. Alabama, if they wanted, could name their score in this game, but there is much more at stake in the coming weeks for the two-time defending BCS champions. A win next week at Auburn will send Alabama back to the SEC Championship Game and move them one step closer to another shot at a BCS title. Nick Saban is not going to reveal too much that hasn’t been seen against a team he knows will not pose much of a threat to those plans.
Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron has completed nine of his 12 pass attempts for 110 yards and a touchdown (to Kevin Norwood). Kenyan Drake and Derrick May have each rushed for a touchdown and Christion Jones has returned one punt for a 75-yard touchdown to account for the scoring in the first half. Alabama’s defense has held overpowered Chattanooga at bay, holding the Mocs to fewer than 100 yards and just one third down completion out of seven.
Look for Alabama to give their key players a rest early in the second half, becasue the fate of a season’s goal will be put to the test next week at Auburn.
