Report: staff shakeup to continue as Jayhawks will add OC

Charlie Weis AP

Tim Grunhard‘s departure won’t be the only movement on Charlie Weis‘ Kansas coaching staff.  Reportedly.

The Lawrence Journal-World reported Wednesday that Rice offensive coordinator John Reagan will be hired in the same capacity with the Jayhawks.  Weis has served as his own coordinator his first two seasons with the football program.

It would serve as a homecoming of sorts for Reagan as he served as KU’s offensive line coach and run-game coordinator under Mark Mangino before moving on to the Owls in 2010.  Reagan will also reportedly take on the role of line coach in his return to Lawrence, replacing Grunhard in that capacity.

In confirming Grunhard’s departure, Weis stated that he has “already hired a replacement for Tim” and “[w]hen that coach becomes available, we will provide more details.”

Just when Reagan would join the Jayhawks is unclear.  Rice’s regular-season finale is this weekend but, with a win, the Owls would earn a berth in the Conference USA title game the following weekend.  The Owls will also play in a bowl game at some point in December.

The guy that needs to leave is Weis. Didn’t win at ND doesn’t win at Kansas.

You can’t fire the coach every two years.

And Charlie Weis becomes even more irrelevant as a coach. If he’s not calling the plays, what does he bring to the table?

@queenlivekillers….from the looks of things, the only thing Charlie brings to the table is himself!

Fired Gill for Weiss. Good move Kansas. Back to the basement for KU football. You’re old room was kept just as you left it.

Fired a winner and hired a loser. Karma. Gill needed time. Kansas deserves this.

They looked like their normal terrible selves against Kansas State. Want to talk about the difference coaching makes? Kansas State is never an A-list talent-laden team, but they’re extremely well coached and play smart and together. Weis has never had the reputation of molding great teams. At ND he had great talent but they always played below their ability. At KU, he doesn’t get great talent and doesn’t seem capable of pulling a Bill Snyder and making the whole amount to more than the individual parts.
