Houston’s leading receiver out for game vs. SMU

Deontay Greenberry AP

Houston’s regular-season finale kicked off just a short time ago, and it did so with the Cougars’ top threat in the receiving game on the sidelines.

Shortly before that kickoff, UH announced that wide receiver Deontay Greenberry has been ruled out of the game against SMU.  Greenberry suffered a lower-leg injury in last Saturday’s loss to Cincinnati.

Greenberry is far and away the Cougars’ top receiver, leading the team in receptions (76), receiving yards (1,103) and receiving touchdowns (10).  UH’s second-leading receiver, Daniel Spencer, has 43 catches for 664 yards and five touchdowns.

Spencer is already stepping up for the Cougars in place of the sophomore, catching a 67-yard touchdown pass on their first play from scrimmage to give UH an early 7-0 lead on SMU.

Good move not going to Notre Dame, not sure he would have gotten on the field
