Florida CB Loucheiz Purifoy declares for NFL draft

Florida cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy has decided to forego his final year of eligibility and declare for the NFL draft, the school announced on Monday.

Said Purifoy: “It’s best for me and my family to pursue a career in the NFL.”

The 6-foot-0, 190-pounder, last seen intercepting Jameis Winston this past Saturday, is viewed as a potential first-round pick according to some draft boards.

Purifoy had 102 tackles, 12 pass breakups, five forced fumbles, 4.5 tackles for loss, three blocked kicks, two interceptions, two sacks and a fumble recovery in his 37-game Florida career.

Florida coach Will Muschamp said he supports Purifoy’s decision “100 percent.”

This not an unexpected move and, besides, the Gators’ issues are on offense, not defense. So UF should be able to absorb the loss of the talented corner.

I’d get out of dodge too.

I thought he was last seen watching Kelvin Benjamin score another touchdown?

You mean watching Benjamin committing some obvious offensive pass interference right?

I’d say it’s just another rat leaving the sinking ship. But since the SS Gator already sunk, I’m not sure WHAT the proper analogy is here.

Loucheiz had a great 2013 and a non-descript 2013. Why come back? To see the listing ship sink? To go from a 2nd rounder to a 5th rounder?

The kid has a knack for making big plays. Anyone who judges him only on 2012 is making a mistake.
