Report: TCU hires Houston’s Doug Meacham as its OC

Doug Meacham AP

The Dallas Morning News is reporting on Tuesday that the Horned Frogs have hired current Houston assistant Doug Meacham to be the team’s new offensive coordinator.

Meacham will replace co-offensive coordinators Rusty Burns and Jarrett Anderson. He spent one year at Houston as OC after spending eight seasons coaching at Oklahoma State.

The Cougars had a solid offense in 2013, averaging 34 points and 422 yards per game despite starting a freshman at quarterback. Meacham will be counted on to revive a TCU offense that has not been the same since former OC Justin Fuente left to become the head coach at Memphis in 2012.

The Horned Frogs were 106th in total offense and 89th in scoring offense this season and head coach Gary Patterson’s defense — usually among the best in the country — suffered as a result. At this point, a fresh approach is needed after TCU finished 4-8, its worst record since going 1-10 in 1997. Otherwise, the Horned Frogs might find themselves permanently ensconced in the Big 12’s lower half.

TCU would have been a top 25 team with a decent offense this year.

Good for TCU…. Bad for UH…

Tony Levine has done a lot to help keep the program going after Sumlin left. It looked like they were going to just keep rolling from Briles to Sumlin to Levine. Hopefully they can find a guy to keep this train moving in the right direction.

As a Cougar, I am tired of being a breeding ground for coaches that get a great chance to join a known program and leave at the first chance they get. Too bad the Cougars have never been able to get back in a major conference since they were in the Southwest Conference years ago.

Meachan wasn’t that good. With a little imagination at in the red zone, Houston could have been in the BCS Bowl.

TCU has historically been a bottom half School athletically speaking…..exceptions of course.

Hope he does well but he was at Houston for a reason. UH is not a good team.
