Grab the hammer and wood and put that fence up, Butch Jones.

In an announcement made live on NBC Sports Network and Rivals.com, Tennessee high schooler Josh Malone announced that he has verbally committed to stay in his home state and play his college football at Tennessee.  Malone’s finalists had been UT, Clemson and Georgia.  He also thanked Florida State and Ohio State for its interest.

Malone, who will be an early enrollee and participate in spring practice, said he chose the Vols because he felt that he had a better opportunity in Knoxville to contribute early than he would have at any of the other schools on his list.

The 6-3, 195-pound receiver is rated as the No. 3 player at his position in the country and the No. 20 player at any position in next year’s class.  He’s also the No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee.

Takes a special type person with several excellent options to remain in state and help rebuild the state’s flagship program instead of going to other programs that have been more successful in recent years.

That’s awesome. I just hope Vols can find the QB to go along with him.

And I hope Vols fans understand that Butch Jones needs time to clean up the mess that Kiffin and Do-Do Dooley left over.

UT’s chances of signing a top QB just went up greatly.

No such thing as a 5 star player from the state of Tennessee. It’s the worst state for high school football that I’ve ever seen!

Good for this kid, I appreciate that he was thoughtful enough to thank the two teams not in his top 3… shows a lot of class.

I graduated from CMU and actually dressed up as Butch Jones for Halloween once. Jones is an excellent job and great hire for UT. He’ll turn UT into a top 10 team in the next 2 years.

Classy move to be willing to help bring back a program. Butch Davis has a decent track record.
    Good luck.

Seems like a very nice kid. Wish him a UT luck. I’m not a UT fan by any means, but the SEC just isn’t right without Tennessee having a good team.

I cannot get over the class Butch Jones has put together. I hope everything is aboveboard. I am as yet unsure of his coaching ability but he has proven to be an ace recruiter.

No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee.

Who is number 1 and where is he going to school?

Because if he is a defensive player I would bet he would go to Alabama.

Price, it starts with recruiting. Your not going to win without it in the SEC. I have said all along, Jones will get UT right.

Guess he’s not too serious about winning.
