Washington goes with Tuiasosopo as interim coach for bowl game

Washington may not know their bowl destination for another few days, but the Huskies do know who will coach the team. Quarterbacks coach Marques Tuiasosopo will take over as interim head coach for the Huskies following the loss of head coach Steve Sarkisian to USC. The school made the announcement on their athletics website Wednesday evening and it will be his first chance to serve as a head coach in his young couching career.

Tuiasosopo joined Washington’s coaching staff this season after a previous stint as an assistant coach at UCLA. The former Rose Bowl MVP is embracing the opportunity to coach the Huskies in their upcoming bowl game, even if it is only for one game. Tuiasosopo is not likely to be named the new head coach once Washington gets through their search for a new head coach.

“I’m humbled and so honored,” Tuiasosopo said. “It’s a great, incredible honor to lead my alma mater in a bowl game.”

Still the only guy to ever go 300 pass yds and 200 rush yds in a game…

    Congrats to Coach Tuiasosopo.

Jon Stewart will be thrilled :)

Guess this likely means Wilcox will not get the job?

Wilcox? Justin Wilcox? Of course he isn’t getting the job. He’s a great defensive coordinator and that’s precisely why Sarkisian’s vulturing him over to USC with him, along with Tosh Lupoi and every other Washington coach worth a crap. I’m a spurned UW fan, y u do dis to me Sark? 😦

Time to get rid of all the rats. If the U of Spoiled Children wants to pay the buy-outs of Wilcox and Lupoi, and they want to go – then good riddance.
I know UW isn’t as alluring as some programs, but it is a heck of a lot better than most. Glad Tui came back to the program and hope he sticks around – could be a head coach someday in the future. Just not now. Bow Down.

He’s all growns up. Makes me feel old.

BTW, I forgot to say that I think Tui is an excellent choice for the interim head coach for the bowl game, whatever it is. An all-time Husky great. Great memories of the 2001 Rose Bowl vs. Purdue and Drew Brees.

Good choice; we all know Tui isn’t ready to be ‘the man’ just yet. Naming Wilcox would have caused too much speculation. Guess there’s little hope that Gary P. would come back, huh? Tough losing two Husky coaches in one season!

Why not give a guy like Tui a chance? Former QB who knows the game of football., young, energetic., and Alumni who isn’t looking to go elsewhere..

I remember Marques Tuiasosopo during his brief Raider career. Coaching material was one of the last projections I could have ever come up for him in the future from his personality and demeanor, lol

I’ve long wondered what the last decade would have been like if the Raiders never traded Gruden and Tui got to run his system growing up in it and replacing Gannon.

I hope this goes well for him.

It’s gonna be Chris Peterson, Wilcox will stay as DC, he was DC for him at Boise. That’s why he hasn’t left yet.

@MANIK – I was thinking the same thing.

Remembering when guys like Tui came out of college and entered NFL… playing an 8 year career… and now coaching…

Gonna have to park my cane next to Deb and Norms.

    Cane? I ride a broom 😉
