Ohio State’s Marcus Hall won’t start B1G title game

The Big Ten announced earlier in the week that the three players ejected from the Ohio State-Michigan game, including Marcus Hall, would not face any further punishment from the conference.

The Buckeyes, though, have decided to continue a teachable moment into the weekend.

On his teleconference Friday afternoon, Urban Meyer announced that Hall will not start Saturday’s Big Ten championship game against Michigan State.  How long the benching lasts remains to be seen, with the OSU head coach saying only “[o]ther than that we will see what happens.

Meyer said the punishment stems from Hall’s reaction after his ejection.  As the offensive lineman was being escorted into the tunnel on his way into the locker room, Hall saluted the Big House with one finger on each hand raised high above his head.

Meyer had confirmed earlier in the week that neither Hall nor running back Dontre Wilson, also ejected during The Game scuffle, would be suspended for the game.

Hall has started every game at right guard for the unbeaten Buckeyes this season after starting all 12 games in 2012.  Redshirt freshman Pat Elflein is listed as Hall’s backup on OSU’s depth chart for Saturday’s title game.

Those double birds seemed….appropriate at the time.

Nothing says, did you learn your lesson? Like missing a series in a football game. MSU’s going to beat them anyway.

  3. indi0228 says: Dec 6, 2013 4:22 PM

His suspension will last one series. At osu they only care about winning and that is all. Rules just get in the way.

    No class

Urban suspended Carlos Hyde for three games at the start of the year for an incident in a bar, that no charges were filed on. While others have played on. Sounds like Urban IS the one holding his players accountable.

Yeah he won’t start just come in on the second play. U Myers an asshole.

  7. gatorprof says: Dec 6, 2013 5:07 PM

Seen this many times at UF…the winning is great, but a simple shower doesn’t wash off the stink.

  8. 10kmp says: Dec 6, 2013 5:32 PM

“Seen this many times”… blah, blah, blah. Obviously, the moniker gatorprof has nothing to do with actually being a ‘Prof’ at Fla. Another SEC moonshiner.

He should have sold autographed memorabilia like Manziel, his suspension would be shorter.

  10. erockfox says: Dec 6, 2013 5:35 PM

so he’s suspended for just the opening kickoff?

    Let’s review:

    -Hall didn’t hit a girl
    -Hall didn’t brandish a weapon
-Hall didn’t text “time to die bitch” to an ex
    -Hall didn’t drive drunk
    -Hall didn’t take illegal drugs
    -Hall didn’t gouge anyone’s eyes
-Hall didn’t commit a criminal act
-Hall didn’t receive improper benefits or financial assistance

The only thing Hall DID do is finish a fight started by another player (for which he was rightfully ejected), and flip off a crowd (hardly a serious offense, but he was reprimanded by the league and issued a public apology).

Rag on Meyer’s shoddy disciplinary history all you want, but let’s stop acting like this was a serious offense that merited any serious punishment, and let’s stop with false equivalencies about anything that happened while Meyer was at UF. This was a minor infraction at best. Frankly, I’m surprised Meyer’s doling out any punishment at all.

This is like a ref throwing a flag after the play was over. Almost like a reaction to negative public opinion. If character and sportsmanship don’t matter, then yes this was not an issue. Sitting out a series might be about right.

Three plays, two stops for a loss, and a punt for tOSU later he will be back in the game.

Hall didn’t hit a girl. But Carlos Hyde did. So did Storm Klein. Both of those were at Ohio state, not Florida….but you can’t just kick good players off the team, right?

Hit up the dislike button, buckeye fan…..and stay classy.

The bitterness is so thick, you could cut it with a knife.

  15. oldforester says: Dec 6, 2013 6:46 PM

    Overratedgat….. sorry Overratedbuckeye:

-Hall did show lack of character
-Hall did show continued lack of sportsmanship
-Hall did show a lack of class
-Hall’s example for youth (perhaps not buckeye fans) was reprehensible
-Hall could have been an example for the country that flipping the bird to Michigan fans, or any fan, was not behavior representative of Ohio State.

I am constantly amazed at the Ohio State nation and their arrogance, and superiority complex. Perhaps they need to expand their comparative local experience beyond Cleveland & Steubenville, where Columbus may very well be superior. You haven’t played anyone, the Big 10 is mid major league this year, and the only thing you can tip your hat to is your band. You were within one play of losing to unranked Michigan. You have not proven anything other than your approval of public profanity viewable by the entire country. Congratulations!!

Does anyone take anything Meyer says or does with any credibility ?

  19. tigers182 says: Dec 6, 2013 8:42 PM

I love listening to OSU slappies “well, he didn’t kill anyone”. There’s a reason OSU is the joke of the nation.

  20. tbmoore13 says: Dec 6, 2013 8:53 PM

Hall flicks someone off and people want to Han em, Winston doesn’t get charged with rape because (allegedly) not enough evidence. And hall will miss more snaps. Ok I get it SMH. Keep hatin on the buckeyes, cuz people only hate when they are jealous

  21. dkhhuey says: Dec 6, 2013 11:35 PM

Who f@#$ing cares!!! I would LOVE to go out like that!!! His last game in that shithole stadium against the hated rivalry where he just got thrown out of – why not go out like that knowing you’re going to the B1G Championship game!!! Well done Marcus – well done!!!

It’ll never happen. Most of these people are also Browns fans who think Bernie Kosar was the bestest, most awesomemest QB ever in the history of the universe simply because he’s from Ohio and who fell in love with Quinn for pretty much the same reason.

And Winston gets brought up because you’re trying to tear someone else down?… Last time I checked, it was innocent until proven guilty. Millions watched Hall flip off the Big House and NO ONE saw what happened between Winston and his accuser thus making your argument irrelevant.

  24. jullman84 says: Dec 7, 2013 11:35 AM

Love to see all the hate for the buckeyes out there! Sorry your team won’t be winning their respective conference, and sorry your team will not have a bid to the BCS national Championship game. Maybe us Ohio State fans are arrogant. That arrogance has been growing due to the fact that all of you who are hating OSU are fans for a team that can’t beat OSU.

    O-H!

  25. hehateme1 says: Dec 7, 2013 2:33 PM

Jullman yore a complete moron. Classless. Also here’s a question for ya… How was that cake schedule you had this year? Last year too. You pretty much played high school teams. How many ranked teams did you face? Curl that tail of yours up between your legs.
