Report: Jimbo Fisher to get contract extension

Jimbo Fisher AP

The Palm Beach Post is reporting on Saturday night that Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher has agreed to a contract extension that will pay him $4.1 million per year over the next five-to-seven years.

The deal would make him one of the 10 highest-paid coaches in college football. His current salary is $2.75 million per year.

Fisher has gone 43-10 in four seasons with the Seminoles since taking over for Bobby Bowden in 2010. His team is 12-0 so far this year and a win over Duke in the ACC Championship on Saturday night will send FSU to Pasadena for the BCS Championship Game.

With this extension, it makes it very unlikely that Texas will be able to swipe Fisher out of Tallahassee if it decides to fire Mack Brown.

Yeah because Fisher would want to leave FSU for Texas, lmao.

Sumlin, Briles, Malzahn, Fisher. All getting locked up with big raises so they are less likely to get plucked.

Texas doesn’t want Jimbo Fischer. Without Jameis Winston at QB he hadn’t done anything great as HC at FSU. BTW he still hasn’t won “The Big One”!
Let’s just wait a month before we anoint him Saint Jimbo!

First off I’m not a big fan of Jimbo but what he CAN do is recruit….and that’s something UT could use a shot in the arm with. I agree that he’s riding Winston to this new level of fame but I think he could get all those great players in Texas to stay home.

Don’t most coaches ride the success on a elite player?? Myer-Tebow&Miller, Osborne-Fraizer, Chizik-Newton, Bowden-Ward&Weinke, Fisher-Winston, Stoops-White&Bradford, Brown-Yound&McCoy, and so on.. Recruiting the elite players is half the battle…Jimbo going up to Alabama and plucking Winston right out of Saban’s backyard is a victory in itself. Jimbo doesn’t just recruit in the state of FL.

    boomgrounder,

Sure they don’t. I have my criticisms of Jimbo, but the man is an elite recruiter which is amongst a college football coach’s biggest jobs. Also, aspiring to be Nick Saban Jr, which all FSU fans know is his goal, not a bad thing considering he’s got 4 crystals on his resume. But I’m sure you UT fans could do better, lol.
