Kelly: Everett Golson won’t practice with Irish ahead of bowl game

Everett Golson‘s long road back to Notre Dame is expected to continue at some point this week as the erstwhile Irish quarterback will be readmitted to the university.

Unexpectedly, his return won’t include working with his teammates in the run-up to the program’s postseason game.

Sunday afternoon, head coach Brian Kelly revealed that Golson will not participate in bowl practices ahead of the Irish’s appearance in the Pinstripes Bowl against Rutgers.  Back in late October, Kelly had stated that Golson would practice with the team if he were to be readmitted to the school.

Circumstances, however, appear to have changed.

“We’re just not going to have the time and place to get him into practice,” Kelly said after practice Sunday. “He may join us in New York for a few days.”

In late May, Golson was suspended from the university for what was described as an academic violation.  Speculation subsequently surfaced that cheating was involved, with Golson confirming the rumors by acknowledging he had cheated on a final exam.

Golson, in his first season as the Irish’s No. 1 quarterback in 2012, started 11 of the 12 games in which he played in leading Notre Dame to its first unbeaten regular season in more than two decades and a spot in the BCS title game.  With Tommy Rees taking over under center this season due to Golson’s suspension, the Irish are 8-4.

    Let him run the scout team to get some of the rust out.

    I read in today’s NY Time’s the arrogant statements made by Mant T’eo. This guy has big balls stating it’s everyone eles’s problem getting over his lie of having a girlfriend who survived a car crash and than dying of leukemia! If that asshole would have won the Heisman Trophy, his lying ways would have contributed to it. He came in second place but that scumbag should never have been in NY City. He proved that by playing like a chump in the Nat’l Title game. TE’O can GO TO HELL!

    Holy sh*t gamecocker. Your infatuation with that story line is bizarre. It’s as if just the words Notre Dame trigger some type of bath salt induced rage in you. It was frustrating to have to read 10 months ago but now just makes me feel sorry for you. Seriously buddy, I’ve said it before, you need to let it go. Manti is trying to move on with his life, you should try that as well. Ugh, your life must just be miserable.

    Could not agree more thegamecocker is obsessed with ND. The university he went to must be a poor one that he feels so inferior and not confident in himself.

    His preoccupation with Teo is weird. i think he has some issues to work out with Teo or maybe like his screen name says he is looking for some cocker?

    Everyone deserves a second chance, don’t they?

    Game cocker is just angry that Golson left SC for ND and is 10x’s better than anything they’ve ever had in Columbia. The Te’o business is long over with and is just boring at this point. Especially when people like this ignore the information on the subject.

    All Irish supporters:

    Read yesterday’s NY Time’s about T’eo and READ his comments. He is an arrogant SOB who LIED about this entire matter and would have gladly stolen the Heisman Trophy if he could have. And he is MEDIOCRE at best in the NFL….he hasn’t come close to being good enough to be so arrogant! He’s a fake, phony, fraud like his “dead girlfriend”…..her name was probably “Anastatia” just like the commercial says…..what a DOPE!

  8. mediocrebob says: Dec 9, 2013 2:58 PM

    Yeah, most decorated college football player of all time solely bc he had a “gf” that died.

    Sounds like someone is a little bitter. And if you followed him at all, you would know that he is anything but arrogant. Most humble player I’ve seen in a long time. But while were on the subject of overrated, arrogant players…how’d Clown’s season go? Talk about a me-first player who’s full of himself.

  9. mediocrebob says: Dec 9, 2013 2:59 PM

    And Te’o is a rookie. A little too soon to say whether he’ll be good or not in the nfl. But I guarantee whether he’s good or not, has nothing to do with whether he had a fake gf or not.

    @mediocrebob

    Bitter? Nah….the ND PR machine will always prop up their players but this guy is a fake and a liar. Read the article before you comment. As for Jadeveon Clowney, if T’eo had teams scheming against him like Clowney has all season, no one would have heard of him. BTW, where was Manti T’eo his first 3 years? You cannot compare T’eo with Clowney….not CLOSE to being on the same level with Clowney. JD will be a Top 3 pick, if not #1 in the upcoming draft. Character wise, Manti T’eo doesn’t come close to many of the past candidates and recipients. He let ND down in the NC game and it wouldn’t surprise me to learn part of the reason was the shock and disappointment the rest of the ND team learning what a humiliated piece of garbage T’eo had become! You cannot deny the fact that HE LIED about this entire matter. He could have squelched it during the season, but he decided to ride it out making ND look like a bunch of saps!
    Better tell your coach the wind is blowing and he shouldn’t allow anyone up on the scaffolding to video preparation for RUTGERS! Just wondering who the MVP was on this years ND Team? Probably Prince Shembo…….another “high character guy

  11. mediocrebob says: Dec 9, 2013 4:21 PM

    Te’o had over 400 tackles in 4 years. And if you think teams didn’t scheme around him, you’re absolutely out of your mind. I don’t need to read any article. But you may want to know a little something about someone before trying to tear him apart.

    And the fact that you’re now moving onto Prince Shembo proves exactly just how much of a bitter Notre Dame hater you are.

  12. mediocrebob says: Dec 9, 2013 4:23 PM

    And his teammates were and remain his biggest supporters. I have a feeling that they may know the guy better than anyone else. Especially some hater from sc or any journalist from ny times. Get over it.

    And let me know when S carolina does SOMETHING relevant.

  13. thegamecocker says: Dec 9, 2013 8:11 PM

    @mediocrebob

    If we played ND last year at a neutral site, we probably would have kicked your sorry asses just like ‘Bama did. South Carolina has been 11-2 the last 2 years and about to do it again. None of our players has been accused of RAPE and all of our graduate assistants are ALIVE and ACCOUNTED for. Considering what ND has experienced, that is RELEVANT. Why don’t you go do Prince Shembo’s laundry……than read him a bed time story.

    Ha SC has NEVER won anything bud. Your fan base relies on the fact that you are in the sec. How many titles you have? How many conference championships you have? Nobody cares about sc. You, however are very concerned with notre dame. And you should be. EV Golson will remind you next year how badly sc needs him. How’d you let him get away? Irish came into your back yard and stole him. Ha get at me when you win something. You can go 11-2 every year. You know what you get with 11-2? The same thing you get with 8-4. Just a later bowl game.

    I’d be jealous too if my team was the gamecocks.

  15. mediocrebob says: Dec 9, 2013 10:53 PM

    Hey cock, what’s your bowl record? What’s your all-time record?

    This is like the marlins trying to call out the Yankees.
