Oregon TE suspended for bowl game for role in snowball fight

A snowball fight that escalated into flaky warfare has cost Oregon a little bit of depth at wide receiver for its postseason game.

The Oregonian, citing two university sources, is reporting that tight end Pharaoh Brown has been suspended for the Ducks’ Alamo Bowl game against Texas. The news of the suspension comes one day after head coach Mark Helfrich released a statement calling the actions of Brown and several other football players who were involved “unacceptable and dangerous.”

No other football players have been suspended for their roles, although the paper wrote that a “source left open the possibility that others could face discipline.”

Friday, Brown and the players, as well as other UO students, were involved in what started out as a snowball fight that turned into target practice on vehicles. A video of the incident, which shows Brown, dressed in his letterman jacket, dousing what turned out to be a UO professor with a tub of snow as he exited his car, quickly went viral. At around the 30-second mark of the video below, Brown dumps a tub of snow on the windshield of one vehicle, while the shot of Brown’s encounter with the professor appears around the 45-second mark.

The professor, who does not want charges pressed against any individual involved, met Sunday with Helfrich, who apologized for the actions of his players. Helfrich also set up a meeting between the players involved and the professor, the Oregonian reported.

The university is still in the process of investigating the incident, and further punishment for Brown and others could be forthcoming.

In nine games this season, Brown has 10 catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
