Report: Wake Forest offers head job to Dave Clawson

Dave Clawson AP

Wake Forest has offered Bowling Green coach Dave Clawson its vacant head coaching position, according to a report on Monday from

The move comes on the heels of Clawson’s reported interview with Wake on Sunday.

No word yet on whether Clawson has accepted the position.

Apparently, Bowling Green’s 47-27 romp over Northern Illinois in the MAC title game on Friday night made quite an impression on Demon Deacon athletic director, Ron Wellman, who attended the game. Wellman also interviewed Ball State head coach Pete Lembo last Thursday, but it looks like Clawson is now at the top of his list.

Former Demon Deacons coach Jim Grobe resigned one week ago after 13 seasons as head coach.

UPDATE: Clawson on Monday night agreed in principle to become the next head coach at Wake Forest. A press conference introducing him as the new Deamon Deacon coach is expected to take place on Tuesday.

Apparently the Wake job is an improvement over BG. I have my doubts about that. Here is hoping when it opens, Urban can help Fickell land the BG job.

Wow, after the one year he spent as OC at Tennessee I can truly say that I am shocked anyone at a BCS level would take him seriously.

Fun Trivia: The current head coach of the Tampa Bay Yucks in the NFL had an NCAA record of 68-67 at Rutgers when he got the NFL job. Jim Grobe had the exact same record at Wake Forest at the exact same time and yet an NFL team hired Schiano instead.

I wonder if the Bucks might be better than 11-18 if they had hired Grobe instead?

It’s a good hire. He was collateral damage during that one year at Tennessee – he was let go after the Vols fired Phil Fulmer. He got there because being OC at UT is a better gig (especially money-wise) than HC at Richmond. First class guy, and he has the mindset you need to take the smallest school in the FBS up a notch.

Not that we’re dissatisfied with our current HC, but we’d have him back at Richmond in a minute. I would think that all Spiders would wish him the very best. Glad you were here, and understand why you left. Go be great.

hopefully it works out better for him than it has for Halzeton at Purdue, Beckman at Illinois and Dureson at NC State, all former MAC head coaches who in the last two years have taken jobs at BCS schools.

Pete Lembo is a better option, IMO

Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job I’ve had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this – 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, for a detail go to home tab.. CLICK HERE

Fickell’s defensive unit just cost the Buckeyes a national title shot. For the last two games they were flat embarrassing. I highly doubt he’s on anyone’s short list to lead a program. The MAC Champs can do much better.
