Report: CB Ahmad Christian to transfer from Gamecocks

Heading into a couple of weeks worth of bowl prep, South Carolina’s secondary is suddenly a little thinner both for now and moving forward.

A source has confirmed to The State‘s Josh Kendall that cornerback Ahmad Christian has decided to take his leave of the football team and will not play in the Capital One Bowl.  The sophomore is expected to transfer to another program, although where the Jacksonville, Fla., product will land is unclear.

For what it’s worth, the Gamecocks have yet to publicly address Christian’s status with the team.

Christian played in 12 games this season, making his first career start in the second game against Georgia.  With starters Jimmy Legree and Victor Hampton leaving for the NFL — the paper reports the latter will leave early for the draft — Christian was expected to, at the very least, compete for a starting job next spring.

Christian was a three-star member of USC’s 2011 recruiting class.

Does anyone blame any of these guys leaving Columbia? Place is a cesspool and these guys realize 11-2 is the ceiling. Clown is gone and Spurrier won’t be around much longer. Can only live off is the success of your conference for so long…

“The old ball coach’s” recruiting abilities will be affected by current players jumping ship. Being late in the game as this season ends has got to be a concern to the AD.

Still reeling from the Clemson loss I see…you’re such a little fool. You’ve probably never even been to Columbia. It is a great college town, the capital of SC with a campus that is drop dead beautiful. Lot’s of culture and the university has state of the art facilities for the student body. The people are tremendous and incredibly friendly. This town and university has much to offer.

Word around Columbia is that Christian is transferring to Coastal Carolina with goals of playing baseball for the Chanticleers. He has been on the baseball team for South Carolina the past two seasons but hasn’t consistently cracked the starting lineup. Seems that baseball is his first love. I wish the best for Ahmad going forward.

If Costal Carolina doesn’t work out, the Hawkeyes could use him….

The Coastal angle is interesting. They are D1 for baseball, FCS for football. So he’d be able to play immediately on football, but would have to skip a baseball season. I guess since we’re between seasons, he could enroll now, skip 2014 baseball and be all set for both for the 2014-2015 eligibility year.

Gamecocks athletic page shows he had 6 at bats last season, so if baseball is his true love, he clearly isn’t getting the opportunity at USC.

I’m not a Clemson fan. Clemson is as dirty as sc.

Listen to me because this is important: I know USC Trojans and I will refer to them as USC. In the southeast section of the country, USC is the University of South Carolina and I will continue to recognize that as well. Now, what I really feel passionate about are nicknames and political correctness. IMO it is an HONOR for teams to use native Indian names signifying their school or teams:
    Marquette Warriors
    St. John’s Redmen
    Washington Redskins
    Cleveland Indians
    Stanford Indians
    Alcorn State Braves
    Atlanta Braves
    Central Michigan Chippewas
    Florida State Seminoles
    Illinois Fighting Illini
    McMurray University Indians
    North Dakota Fighting Sioux
    Wayne State Warriors
    William and Mary The Tribe

Political Correctness has killed this country. I will recognize the above organizations by these names even if they change them. St. John’s used to be good when they were the Redmen. Now it’s the Red Storm reminding me of a woman’s menstrual cycle. When ever I see them play, I yell out “LET’S GO REDMEN” over and over. I don’t care what Louie Carnessecca says it’s stupid! Same with Al McGuire’s Marquette Warriors! They will ALWAYS be the WARRIORS…NOT THE GOLDEN EAGELS.

If you support political correctness, you can KISS MY FIGHTING GAMECOCK ASS!!!

Well it is a gamecocks article. So gamecock fans will usually post.

And columbia is not a nice college town gamecocker. It’s a dirty cesspool of a city with a heinous college campus that looks like a pile of rubbish near the center. And it smells like sewage and all the people are total hicks and trash. I lived there for a while and we recognize our own kind.

  15. onlyoneleft says: Dec 10, 2013 8:26 PM

Columbia is a screwed up place with sorry leadership whose mayor has been in several schemes. He crashed his car returning from a party the night he was elected, and killed a woman. His brother in law was just shot and killed. A small Detroit.

  16. waynefontes says: Dec 11, 2013 9:51 AM

The Chanticleers have a great baseball program, especially considering their size.

Adding him to Coastal’s football team would be an added bonus.

Columbia is a beautiful city, and The USC is an outstanding university located there. Best wishes to Ahmad. Haters keep on hating because we love our GAMECOCKS!!!
