Texas A&M regents unanimously approve Kevin Sumlin’s new contract

While the watch is on in Austin, nerves may be calmed in College Station, Texas. The contract extension Kevin Sumlin agreed to with Texas A&M within the last few weeks has finally been unanimously approved. As previously reported, the contract is for six years and should provide a nice raise.

Sumlin had been mentioned among multiple rumors tied to the NFL’s Houston Texans and the USC Trojans. Some even discussed the idea of Sumlin to Texas to replace Mack Brown as a potential back-up plan to missing out on Alabama head coach Nick Saban. The timing of everything seemed to make some sense when you put the pieces together, at least as far as the Houston Texans were concerned. Sumlin is respected as a guy who could coach at the NFL level and his former quarterback with the Houston Cougars, Case Keenum, has been getting playing time for the struggling NFL franchise.

But Sumlin’s locked in at Texas A&M as the program continues to thrive after moving in to the sEC. The future looks bold for the Aggies even though they took a step back after a rousing SEC debut.

Great job on offense… but ltt’s be honest.. having a Johnny Manziel on the roster will do that for you.

What happens when Manziel heads to the NFL??? That will prove Sumlin’s true coaching talent.

Next order of new contract business… somehow Sumlin better field a Defense… they aren’t Gig’n anybody.

I’m not down on Sumlin… just on amped up regents…

    PS… See Charlie Weis

    1) What ND said in 2005:
“In a very short period of time, Charlie has clearly and impressively demonstrated the ability to take the Notre Dame program where we all want it to go,” Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White said.

“We’re excited that Charlie wanted to extend his commitment to Notre Dame, combined with the University’s interest in furthering its relationship with him. All of us are enthusiastic about what the future holds for Notre Dame football with Charlie Weis as our head coach. We’re confident that we’ve got the best coach in America ensconced at his alma mater for the remainder of his career.”

    2) What’s Being Said Today… not my words:
“Charlie Weis… Notre Dame certainly remembers him, because years after it fired him after going 16-21 over the course of three years with the Fighting Irish, it still owes him money. Lots of money.
Charlie Weis was the most overpaid coach in the country this past season if we went by moneys received per win. Although it’s quite silly that Kansas paid a coach who has never had any real success at the college level $2.5 million for a campaign wherein he won only one game…

Notre Dame is paying Charlie Weis — CHARLIE DAMN WEIS — $19 million — 19 MILLION DAMN DOLLARS — to not coach its team through 2015, which is abso-friggin-lutely hilarious.”
