When Arizona State takes the field for the Holiday Bowl matchup with Texas Tech, the Sun Devils will do so without a little thinner at the quarterback position.
Head coach Todd Graham confirmed after practice Friday that Michael Eubank has decided to transfer from the university. Graham said the redshirt sophomore has been granted a release from his scholarship, and that the football program will attempt to help him find a new landing spot.
“He got his release from us today, and we wish him the very best,” Graham said. “Great young man, and we’re going to try to help find him a home.”
There’s no word on where the Corona, Calif., native may transfer, although FOXSports.com reports that he’s likely headed to the FCS level.
After seeing substantial playing time in 2012, Eubank saw his time on the field plummet as he fell behind starter Taylor Kelly (no relation) and backup Mike Bercovici on the depth chart. Eubank threw and ran for four touchdowns each in 2012; in 2013, he had none of the former and three of the latter.
Eubank was a four-star member of ASU’s 2011 recruiting class, rated as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the country.
