Five-star LB Raekwon McMillan opts for Buckeye verbal

Raekwon McMillan

UPDATED 12:34 p.m. ET: McMillan announced that he has verbally committed to Ohio State.  The decision came less than 24 hours after an in-home visit from OSU head coach Urban Meyer and several defensive assistants.

“There was just something special about Ohio State,” the five-star recruit said.

____________

Monday afternoon, yet another highly-touted player in the Class of 2014 is set to make a decision on where he will ply his future football wares.

The latest to do so is Raekwon McMillan, a five-star linebacker out of Hinesville, Georgia.  McMillan is scheduled to make his verbal commitment live at noon ET on both the NBC Sports Network and on the Internet at Rivals.com.

McMillan has whittled his choices down to five finalists: Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and Ohio State.

Rivals.com recruiting expert Mike Farrell sees McMillan opting for the Buckeyes, although he also could see the Tide sneaking in and landing yet another top-rated player.

McMillan is rated as the No. 1 inside linebacker in the country by Rivals. He’s also the No. 1 player at any position in the state of Georgia and the No. 19 player overall in the Class of 2014.

Welcome to Alabama Raekwon. You’ll look great in Crimson.

I could actually see him choosing Auburn. Their current linebackers are terrible and McMillan could come in and start day one. But he’s most likely gonna be playing for OSU.

    Auburn.

I hope he doesn’t become the next draft flop to come out of Alabama. Bama is churning out more busts than Playboy.

Browns town for once I agree with you.

At this point in time the question can be asked ‘who are the bigger NFL busts? USC quarterbacks or Alabama running backs?’

If a 16 year old girl is allowed to play professional golf and make millions of dollars these young men should be allowed to play professional football.

I have no idea why I am going to watch this but I am. I find it hysterical that high school athletes are giving press conferences. Stop feeding into the hype and “branding” of kids.

    OSU it is

    Well played Urban Well played.

He picked OSU because he’ll be treated like Hernandez and Harvin. The rules won’t apply to him.

At least he figured out some schools that need a lot of help on defense. 4 of 5 are close to home so I expect either OSU or Bama/Auburn. Would be surprised if he picked UGA or Clemson, but would wait until after NC game to make choice.

Welcome to the Buckeye Nation Raekwon!!! It will be a fun ride for the next 3 – 4 years!!!

Good move for his future draft prospects. Why play in the SEC where he would simply look average when he can go play up north and look outstanding?

16 year old golfers aren’t getting hit by 325 pound men when they play.

“Non-profit” colleges and universities wouldn’t be able to exploit a 16 y/o female golfer and PROFIT to the tune of billions of dollars like they do football players.

But why let the facts get in the way…

    @1990tiger,

The offensive linemen for Alabama are all over 300 pounds and they definitely are not boys.
