Les Miles on Texas: Let’s not kick my name around

Every coach with ay amount of success in the coaching game is likely to be asked at one point about the vacancy in Austin, Texas. That certain;y has been the case for a handful of SEC West coaches lately, including LSU head coach Les Miles.

Ross Dellenger, LSU beat reporter for The Baton Rouge/New Orleans Advocate, captured one of the latest noteworthy lines from the LSU head coach. Asked about the opening at Texas, Miles simply said “Oh please, let’s not kick my name around.”

Perhaps Miles had learned a lesson from the last time his name was being floated around as a potential candidate for another storied program. In 2010 there were talks that Miles was going to leave LSU for an opening at Michigan, just as Miles was preparing his Tigers for the SEC Championship game. The sequence of events was highlighted by an impromptu press conference only Miles could have had to refute a report suggesting he was going to leave LSU for Michigan just hours before the sEC Championship Game.

Miles is taking more of a preemptive strike to keep his name out of the rumor mill. Whether he is a wish list candidate for Texas or not remains to be seen for sure, but Miles does have experience in the Big 12. Before coaching at LSU Miles was the head coach at Oklahoma State.

It’s a shame Miles is not interested in the Texas position. Having him on his own show on the Longhorn Network would have done wonders for network subscriptions.
