Ex-Cal QB Zach Kline transferring to Beavers

Zach Kline AP

A couple of weeks after leaving Cal, Zach Kline has found a new football home.  And, reportedly, the new home won’t require the quarterback to change his conference affiliation.

According to the Portland Tribune, Kline will, eventually, transfer to Oregon State.  Kline recently informed the Beavers coaching staff of his intentions.

Those intentions, the paper reports, include spending the next two semesters at the JUCO level before officially moving on to OSU for the summer/fall semester next year.

Kline will still have to sit out the 2014 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.  He would be eligible to play for the Beavers in 2015.

Entering summer camp this past season, Kline was the presumptive front-runner for the starting quarterback job.  Instead, true freshman Jared Goff got the nod, with the redshirt freshman Kline coming off the bench and appearing in seven games in 2013.

Prediction: Kline ends up hanging 50 on Cal in a hideous orange jersey; the high school team Sonny Dykes is coaching at the time fails to make the state championship for the third straight year.

think yhe vikings should pick him up when he drafts so Zach Kline can play on the same team as Zach Line.

Prediction:Kline won’t even see the field for Oregon State. Young Mr. Kline needs to realize, nothing is given in this world. Those of us who saw him vs DLS understand what I’m talking about.

I love the way Californians are obsessed with particular high schools and pretend high school games matter. I could rattle off a long list of mutant-grade NFL stars who couldn’t beat Hoover High when they were 17; sure doesn’t mean anything, and definitely doesn’t change the fact Goff was hot garbage.

The link says Kline was a redshirt freshmen this year and after taking next season off he’ll be eligible as a sophomore in 2015. Since he’s already redshirted wouldn’t he lose a year of eligibility and be a redshirt junior in 2015?
