Back in February, D.J. Pettway was one of four Alabama football players who were dismissed after they were arrested and charged in connection to the beating and robbery of a fellow UA student. Ten months later, the lineman is apparently back in the football program’s good graces.
Eastern Mississippi Community College announced on its Twitter feed Wednesday that Pettway “is now officially an ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE!” The defensive lineman himself confirmed via Twitter he has “signed with Bama again today.”
Wednesday is the first day players from the JUCO level can officially sign with FBS programs.
For what it’s worth, Alabama has not yet announced Pettway’s addition to the roster.
It was reported Feb. 12 that Pettway, along with linebacker Tyler Hayes and defensive back Eddie Williams, had been charged with two felony counts of second-degree robbery. The three accosted a male Alabama student, beat him and stole an Apple laptop as well as a debit card.According to arrest warrants, D.J. Pettway, Eddie Williams and Tyler Hayes punched a student’s head and face and kicked him in the ribs and back area.
Williams and Hayes admitted to the attack, which caused cuts to the victim’s face, a mild concussion and severe swelling, according to the warrants.
The fourth player, running back Brent Calloway, was charged with fraudulent use of a credit/debit card.
All four were indefinitely suspended the same day news of the arrests surfaced. Two weeks later, the quartet was dismissed from the football program, with Pettway ultimately landing at EMCC after getting clearance from a judge to leave the state.
Pettway was a four-star member of Alabama’s 2011 recruiting class. He played in 12 games as a redshirt freshman in 2012.
