Texas appoints 8-person committee for head coaching search

Texas took the next step toward replacing Mack Brown on Wednesday as the school announced that athletic director Steve Patterson has appointed an eight-member committee to handle the Longhorns’ coaching search.

According to ESPNTexas, seven of the eight members of the committee were involved in hiring Patterson.

The school is also bringing in Jed Hughes of search firm Korn Ferry to aid in the process.

No names have emerged as front runners in the Texas coaching lottery though, per tradition, Jon Gruden has been mentioned as a possibility (isn’t he always?).

Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated expects it to be a slow process, with the hire coming after Jan. 1.

In the meantime, with the search committee is in place, the speculation can really begin.
