Alabama suspends two for Sugar Bowl

A day after welcoming back a previously dismissed player, Alabama has suspended two players for the upcoming Sugar Bowl.

According to Andrew Gribble of AL.com, linebacker Xzavier Dickson and running back Alvin Kamara have been suspended for the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma. No reason for the suspensions has been confirmed yet, other than the typical violation of team rules.

Dickson was listed as Alabama’s alternate jack linebacker for the final game of the season against Auburn, splitting time with Denzel Devall, but has had an impact in bringing pressure to opposing quarterbacks with good frequency this season when on the field. He has appeared in 10 games this season with 2.0 tackles for a loss. Kamara has not played this season.

Alabama’s running back position is pretty stocked. The final depth chart of the regular season listed four running backs for the Auburn game. Kamara was not on that list. His fate with the Crimson Tide may be more in question now. Kamara did not make a road trip to Texas A&M back in September, suggesting Alabama was looking to preserve a redshirt year for the freshman.
