Report: Clay Helton to remain on USC staff

Los Angeles media outlets are reporting that USC offensive coordinator Clay Helton, who served as interim coach for the Trojans in their 45-20 Las Vegas Bowl win over Fresno State, will be retained on new coach Steve Sarkisian’s staff.

There’s no word yet on whether Helton will continue to run the offense or whether he will serve in a different role under Sarkisian, who has called plays for his Washington teams in the past.

Helton’s name had been bandied about as a possible replacement for Brent Pease at Florida, but that scenario appears to be unlikely at this point.

Helton has done a solid job since taking over as full-time offensive coordinator for Lane Kiffin. The Trojans have scored at least 40 points over three times with him calling the plays.
