Notre Dame QB Andrew Hendrix asks for his release

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said on Tuesday that Irish quarterback Andrew Hendrix has asked for a release from his scholarship.

No word yet on where Hendrix might end up, but since he has already graduated from Notre Dame, he’ll be able to play immediately under the graduate transfer rule.

Hendrix had a checkered career for the Irish. Two years ago, he was considered a front runner to win the starting quarterback job, but he never showed consistent improvement as a passer. He went 25 of 58 for 360 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in his career.

With Hendrix leaving, that clears the decks for Everett Golson and Malik Zaire to be the top two quarterbacks for the Irish in 2014.

Good luck Andrew wherever you decide to go and best of luck in medical school.

Medical school? Best of luck to him. Hope he’s thinking of working on a Master’s first–average course load for a first year medical student is 30 credit hours each semester, really not feasible to be both med student a football player.

The linked article mentions Miami (Ohio), which doesn’t have a medical school, so I suppose that he is thinking Master’s first.

I’m going to be an ND snob…it’s been a tough year…..nice to see a CFT page where one story has a school reinstating felons while we have a story of releasing players to go to medical school – probably explains the 8-4 record.

Sour grapes poopie. You were undefeated last year before the NC.

I’m sure he will not be going to medical school yet, but after next year.
