Duke OC officially added to Muschamp’s Gator staff

David Cutcliffe‘s longtime right-hand man will be the latest to attempt to get Florida’s floundering offense back to at least mediocre.

Confirming reports that surfaced earlier this week, the Gators announced that head coach Will Muschamp has hired Kurt Roper as his newest and latest offensive coordinator. In addition to his coordinating duties, Roper will also serve as the Gators’ quarterbacks coach.

Roper replaces Brent Pease, who was fired after just two seasons on the job.

“I’m excited to have Coach Roper join our staff,” said Muschamp in a statement. “He has a diverse, up-tempo background on offense and does a good job of adapting to what the players do best. The most important thing though, is he has always remained balanced. He has had success calling plays in the SEC and has tutored three NFL quarterbacks. He has had players produce at every offensive position and he is one of the most well-respected coaches in the country.”

Roper, who has spent the past six seasons at Duke, has extensive experience in the SEC. Prior to his time with the Blue Devils, Roper had served as an assistant on coaching staffs at Tennessee (2005; 1996-98), Kentucky (2002-04) and Ole Miss (1998-2004).

Roper is expected to remain with Duke through its Dec. 31 Chick-fil-A Bowl game against Texas A&M before moving on to Gainesville.
