Terps part ways with longtime assistant Tom Brattan

Tom Brattan

For more than a decade, Tom Brattan has been a part of the Maryland football program.  Monday, that association came to an end.

The Terps announced via a press release that the contract of Brattan “will not be renewed.”  No reason was given for what amounted to a firing.

“We would like to thank Tom for all of his hard work and commitment to the University of Maryland football program,” head coach Randy Edsall said in a statement. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Brattan had served as Maryland’s offensive line coach since 2001, and was one of two remaining holdovers from the Ralph Friedgen era that ended in 2010.

Edsall should be the next to go.

So let me get this straight. They fire Friedgen, hire Edsall. He runs off a ton of players. Bad luck hits the program like never before. The attendance is roughly the same as it was with Fridge, and three years later they end up in the same bowl game Fridge had his team in. But only this time they lose? Yup. Makes perfect sense.

@ cubano76: What’s even more mind-numbing is the fact that they had James Franklin, who’s one of the hottest coaching candidates in college, all lined-up to assume the Head Coach job when Friedgen retired, and they let him walk away?!?!?!?!

Clock is ticking very quickly on the Edsall era. One winning record in three years after Friedgen was 9-4 in his final season with a bowl win.

Every year you hear how the Under Armour money is going to make them a top destination for recruits, but then yet another disappointing season. If not for the zany uniforms, people would forget Maryland still played football.

Terps could have had a winner in Mike Leach but chose Edsall, a man with a similar record as the man they fired and look what the results are. Bring on the Pirate

Edsall can only wish for that. Friedgen went 75-50 for his career. Edsall was 4 games over .500 when hired by Maryland and is 7 games under .500 now.
