Jadeveon Clowney on if he’s turning pro: ‘Yes, sir’

The Capital One Bowl indeed was the last time we’ll see Jadeveon Clowney play at the collegiate level.

Following South Carolina’s 34-24 win over Wisconsin Wednesday in Orlando, the junior defensive end was asked if he was turning pro.

Yes, sir,” was the response.

It was about as foregone a conclusion as possible that Clowney would leave Columbia after his junior year. Despite finishing with only three sacks in 2013, Clowney proved all he could in 2012. Racking up 13 sacks will do that (Clowney also had eight his freshman year).

He was the subject of some passive-aggressive barbs from coach Steve Spurrier (which, really, is par for the course from the head ball coach) earlier in the year when he backed out of playing an early October game. The Spurrier quote:

“If he doesn’t want to play, he doesn’t have to play, simple as that. We were thinking he was going to suit up and play. He did not practice Thursday. Couldn’t run. Said he couldn’t play. Any time a player says he’s hurt, can’t play, who are we to question? He doesn’t play.”

Spurrier later admitted everyone involved handled the situation poorly, and there didn’t appear to be any lingering animosity between the player and coach.

Clowney is almost universally rated as the best defensive player in the 2014 NFL Draft pool, and jockeys between the No. 1 and No. 2 overall player with Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (who declared for the draft earlier today).

Time to take the hype to the next level.

  2. classyjacklambert says: Jan 1, 2014 5:55 PM

Wait he’s not going to finish learning to write his name at South Carolina? Instead he’s going to make millions during his three year rookie contract and possibly retire at the age of 24? Stunned silence across the nation.

Can you imagine what people would think if this guy if he put in the effort and time to be a smart likable kid? Why is it the people with the best genetic measurable are the least appealing and typically lazy?

Classyjacklambert You are without a doubt the biggest ass on this board. You love to create controversy for no reason. You argue just to argue. If it makes you feel good to take pot shots at Clowney, knock yourself out. You don’t have a clue about him because you don’t know him. I would say he is a much better person than you will ever be. And I don’t know either one of you. But I’m using your logic and standards to make my judgement. Questioning his intelligence level is just stupid. But I consider the source so it is not a surprise.

I know you are still upset because your tigers have lost 5 in a row to the Gamecocks but taking personal shots is juvenile and about what I would expect from you.

Good one! Outside of Vandy, SEC schools don’t educate their student-athletes.

Classlessjack I’m sorry if you can’t stand the truth. Since you don’t have an original thought in that pea sized brain of yours, you know you copied my remarks I made to another poster, why don’t you tell me the lie that I told and how I am a hypocrite. You can’t because I haven’t and I’m not. Your nothing more than the neighborhood bully. You talk junk and when challenged you run to your house. Grow up Junior.

  12. deezenucks says: Jan 1, 2014 8:14 PM

Cool your jets, jets. 2 speeding tickets in a matter of weeks for a guy with all eyes on him currently, pretty hard give your arguments much credibility either

  13. jets12 says: Jan 1, 2014 8:23 PM

Since this has nothing to do with Clowney getting speeding tickets your point is invalid.

  14. classyjacklambert says: Jan 1, 2014 8:23 PM

Jets12 likes to try to call people out and belittle people be disagrees with for making judgments about people they don’t know personally and have only the information made public by the media. So basically he judges people for making judgments. This makes him a hypocrite. When called out on this, he says that what he does is completely different because he bases his judgments on statements made by the poster… Even though we make our judgments based in actions and quotes from Clowney in this case. When gamecock fans are shown on video acting like hooligans and throwing bottle at players on the field, he makes up a story about his car getting keyed by Clemson fans because he had a bumper sticker, though he has no proof that it was Clemson fans or that this actually happens. When this is brought up, he says Clemson fans are his jealous that the gamecocks have won 5 in a row against Clemson. This makes him a liar. Therefore he is a liar and a hypocrite.

  15. jets12 says: Jan 1, 2014 8:43 PM

Classlessjack you are not only a computer bully but you are an idiot also. You make comments about Clowney’s education level. You have done this on several occasions. That is a fact. Not a lie. I have never taken cheap shots at any player. I did get my car keyed at clemson. So that’s not a lie. It was a car tag and not a sticker. You should get your facts straight. How do you know the fans were throwing bottles? And if fans were throwing bottles how do you know they weren’t clemson fans throwing the bottles? And yes you are jealous and disappointed that clemson is owned by the Gamecocks. So that’s not a lie. So to recap everything you said is a lie. You are a pathetic little man. And again come up with an original thought. Copying my thoughts doesn’t say much about your educational level.

  16. classyjacklambert says: Jan 1, 2014 8:58 PM

Well the fact that the bottle throwing was on tv is probably pretty good evidence that it happened. And the fact that they were thrown at Clemson players heading into the tunnel is probably a good indication that it wasn’t Clemson fans doing the throwing. Also I never said I didn’t make fun of Clowney. I have on multiple occasions because he has proven that he is dumb… Also on multiple occasions. I’m not jealous of gamecock fans or success, in fact I often congratulate them on their wins. Do I talk some trash? Absolutely. Never said I didn’t. Do I make up stories to make myself and other Clemson fans seem classier than gamecock fans? Nope that’s you. And you try to act like you don’t make judgments when you clearly do. You’re such a hypocrite, if I was a gamecock fan, I’d be embarrassed to be rooting for the same team as you. And it’s super convenient that after all that trash talking you and Jonkybon did that you just suddenly came up with this story of your car getting keyed because you had a gamecock license plate… I call bs. Be a man and grow up you coward.

  17. jets12 says: Jan 1, 2014 9:17 PM

Oh excuse me classlessjack. I was watching a replay of the last Carolina / clemson football game. Did you say something? Sorry I missed it. Could you repeat it?

  18. classyjacklambert says: Jan 1, 2014 9:25 PM

Yeah I don’t blame you. I guess when you’re a liar, a hypocrite, and a coward there’s really not much else you can do than live in your football team’s past moment of highest accomplishment.

  19. jets12 says: Jan 1, 2014 9:41 PM

Well classlessjack not really. You are the liar. You certainly are classless. You live in a fantasy world that only you could understand. And you seem to have an elitist attitude. You can magically determine by watching clips on TV if someone is smart or dumb. You have a crystal ball that can tell you if my car was damaged at clemson or not. This same crystal ball tells you it was Carolina fans throwing bottles. Can you post a thread to that video? You are a judge mental idiot. I get along just fine with my fellow Carolina friends. And I also get along just fine with my clemson friends.

Instead of constantly taking shots at Clowney on this board, why don’t you contact the university and arrange a meeting with him so you can tell him your thoughts. We both know that you would run like a scared deer. So why don’t you just find a new hobby. Maybe you could get a job with a traveling circus. But be sure and take your crystal ball. Because without it I’m sure you have nothing to offer.

    Name calling………check

Time to call JT in and get the kindergarden class under control. All of this is really unnecessary and juvenile since Clowney could give a rats ass about what any blogger thinks of his intellect or character. I for one question his “decision making skills” since the double speeding ticket incident strictly because that type of behavior is wreckless and risk the lives of others not just his own. He’s going on to the NFL and will make millions whether any of you like him or not.

In his defense… he does have a tough name to spell, and that’s a lot of letters…
