Sneak Peek: 2014 Capital One Bowl

South Carolina v Central Florida Getty Images

WHO: 9-3 Wisconsin (Big Ten) vs. 10-2 South Carolina (SEC)

WHAT: Capital One Bowl (68th Year)

WHERE: Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida

WHEN: Jan. 1 at 1:00 PM ET

WHY: Wisconsin and South Carolina will both be looking to pound out yardage on the ground, and they will bring two talented running backs with them to do just that. Wisconsin will hand the football off to Melvin Gordon with regularity after rushing for 1,466 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. South Carolina will counter with one of the top running backs in the SEC not playing for Auburn, Mike Davis, who rushed for 1,134 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.

Both teams are going to bring some defense to the field as well. The spotlight will be shining on Gamecocks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who appears to be playing in his final game at the college level before turning pro. This season has been a roller coaster for Clowney with speculation he was heading to the NFL buzzing during last season’s bowl game for the Gamecocks. He delivered one of the signature hits of the 2012 season in his owl performance last season, but will he have any highlights to send him off to the NFL against the Badgers?

The Badgers defense will be anchored by linebacker Chris Borland, one of the top defensive players in the Big Ten and a solid tackler any time the ball comes near him. Borland has set the tone for a defense that allowed just 14.8 points per game this season, although they gave up 31 points in their final game of the regular season to Penn State. If the Gamecocks can provide time for quarterback Connor Shaw to work, South Carolina should be in decent shape in this even match-up.

PREDICTION: South Carolina 24, Wisconsin 23

Should be quite the game. Don’t really know if SC is as good as their record but I do know from the bit I’ve seen of them this year that Connor Shaw makes them go and Clowney is way overrated. Or maybe he’s just playing it safe for his pro contract. Either way should be a good one.

We are better than advertised. I don’t see Wisconsin putting 23 up.

South Carolina wins this by double digits IMO

Realize who your team is. You are not better then advertised. You are exactly how you are advertised. No way South Carolina wins by double digits. Had you won your division, I may agree. But since you didn’t, all I can say is you are who we thought you were. Wisconsin isn’t a great team but neither is S. Carolina. You may win but it’ll be by less then 7 points.

I think he realizes who and what his team is…

You lost to Penn State for crying out loud…

It’s VERY possible that USC wins this by double digits..

  7. madtownthrowdown says: Jan 1, 2014 1:06 PM

I’m not proclaiming we are a great team. I realize we lost to Penn St. That’s why I’m not plugging my team. Didn’t Carolina lose to Tennessee?

  8. madtownthrowdown says: Jan 1, 2014 1:07 PM

Let’s gets something straight your the Univ. of South Carolina. Not USC.

  9. keltictim says: Jan 1, 2014 1:42 PM

No we are USC do you need a history lesson? We were a university before the Cali pretty boys were even thought of. And yes we lost to Tenn. in the SEC every week is a battle. 3 years ago we beat bama Any given Saturday.

  10. jets12 says: Jan 1, 2014 1:42 PM

South Carolina is USC. Whether you recognize it as such or not. Doesn’t matter. You are not the authority on the matter.

  11. classyjacklambert says: Jan 1, 2014 1:51 PM

There’s only one USC, it’s in California. The university of South Carolina is SCAR, that’s according to ESPN, which is probably the closest thing to an authority on college abbreviations there is.

  12. jets12 says: Jan 1, 2014 2:01 PM

You can quote all the news sources you want to. ESPN is hardly an authority on this subject. But I’ll tell you what. You believe what you want to and I’ll do the same.

  13. madtownthrowdown says: Jan 1, 2014 2:06 PM

Keltictim- hahaha you beat Bama 3 years ago. To funny. Glad 3 years ago matters.

  14. keltictim says: Jan 1, 2014 2:15 PM

It doesn’t matter, that was my point moron. Yes we lost to tenn. In the sec you can any Saturday it’s the toughest conference.

  15. keltictim says: Jan 1, 2014 2:20 PM

    You can lose any Saturday.

  16. madtownthrowdown says: Jan 1, 2014 2:21 PM

Hahaha ok ok. I got it. Your one of those guys who knows your team isn’t that great so you talk up your conference. Cool story Bro. Tell it again.

  17. keltictim says: Jan 1, 2014 2:51 PM

You made the comment about tenn I was just responding. I don’t need to talk up anything. You guys have a heck of a run game. My only question is does it work without holding ?

LMFAO. I think Wisconsin just lost by double digits to USC. ESPN’s about as much an authority on college football as Herbstreit is on picking games.

Separately, I find it funny that the same network that put equal effort into putting Clowney & Manziel on pedestals and then tearing them down is being referred to as “the authority” of college football. More like “The National Enquirer.”

Soooooo… where are all the Sconnie fans now?
    Oh yeah, that’s right, they’re still 10 points and a fourth quarter behind…. LMFAO…

Don’t be butt hurt… Penn State is no Tennessee and you lost to them too…
