Brandin Cooks makes it official, leaves Beavers for NFL

As expected, one of the most productive wide receivers at the collegiate level in 2013 has decided to take his game to the next level in 2014.

Oregon State confirmed via a press release Thursday afternoon that Brandin Cooks “has elected to make himself eligible for the 2014 NFL Draft by submitting a notarized petition to the NFL renouncing his remaining one year of college eligibility.” Provided Cooks does not sign with an agent, the school noted, the junior could change his mind and formally withdraw from the draft no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on Jan. 18.

That’s not expected to happen, however.

The 2013 Biletnikoff Award winner as the top wide receiver at the FBS level, Cooks led the nation in receiving yards (1,730) and was second in receptions (128) and receiving touchdowns (16). The receptions and yards set single-season Pac-12 records.

OSU also noted that Cooks is the fourth Beaver to declare early for the draft, joining Steven Jackson (2003), Brandon Browner (2004) and Jacquizz Rodgers (2010).
