Virginia loses pair of assistants to UConn, Mike London on hot seat in 2014

The Virginia football program will need to add a couple of assistant coaches to their staff for the 2014 season. Safeties coach Anthony Poindexter will leave the program to take on the duties as defensive coordinator at Connecticut. He will be joined by Virginia defensive line coach Vincent Brown, who will continue to coach on the defensive side of the football at UConn.

Poindexter will be reunited with new UConn head coach Bob Diaco. Diaco and Poindexter were a part of Virginia’s coaching staff under former Virginia head coach Al Groh. Diaco is also tapping in to the Virginia lineage by hiring former Cavaliers quarterback Wayne Lineburg.

The Daily Progress reported the coaching staff departures from Virginia Friday night. According to the report, Virginia head coach Mike London has just three assistant coaches remaining on his staff. As suggested by The Daily Progress, London’s job could very well be on the line in 2014 following the recent coaching turnover and struggles on the field with the program despite a hint of progress two years ago.

London has a record of 18-31 since taking over the job as head coach at Virginia.
