Freddie Tagaloa wins appeal, will transfer from Cal to Arizona

Arizona will add an experienced piece to its offensive line a year earlier than expected.

Freddie Tagaloa confirmed to the Bay Area News Group Monday that he won an appeal late last month and will be transfer into Arizona from Cal. Because he was transferring within the Pac-12, the offensive lineman would’ve been required to sit out the next two seasons.

Instead, the successful appeal will allow Tagaloa to, after sitting out the 2014 season, play in 2015.

One of the reasons for Tagaloa’s decision to transfer to the Wildcats is the presence of Jim Michalczik on Rich Rodriguez‘s staff. Michalczik was Tagaloa’s position coach before becoming part of the Jeff Tedford purge in 2012, landing in the desert for the 2013 season.

After starting the first seven games of the 2013 season at left tackle, Tagaloa was moved to the guard position and didn’t start another game. The initial plan is for Tagaloa to move back to tackle.
