Report: Johnny Manziel has picked his agent

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel hasn’t declared for the draft yet, but he has apparently picked his agent, according to a report on Tuesday from ESPN.

Multiple sources tell ESPN’s Darren Rovell that Manziel has chosen Select Sports Group out of Houston to be his contract agency and LRMR, the firm run by LeBron James’ business partner Maverick Carter, to do his marketing. It is unclear whether he has signed a deal with either firm. Calls placed to SSG and Carter were not immediately returned.

Once Manziel signs with an agency, he would forfeit his NCAA eligibility.

Word is that Johnny Football met Lebron last summer and the two have been close ever since.

Manziel threw for 7,820 yards and 63 touchdowns and rushed for 2,169 yards with 30 scores in his two years at Texas A&M. He became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy in 2012.

F@#$ing awesome – now I can sleep at night!!! Isn’t it time to move this over the PFT now?

I hate this. He was a sophomore when he won the Heisman. 2nd freaking year in college unless he flunked his freshman year. One cannot turn pro until 3 years after your high school graduation. This year he was/is a Junior. Why do they call a 1st year player a “true freshman”? A first year is a freshman year, period. Your 2nd year is your sophomore year. Student/athlete anyone? BTW 5th year Senior is ok. A bunch of those out there, I of course was a 6th year senior. Come on Chris spread the word.

Redshirt Sophmore means he’s three years removed from high school last time I checked. Maybe you needed a 7th?

He would be a perfect fit for the Redskins. Bob3 and Johnny Footballs.

He’s the first REDSHIRT freshman to win Heisman.

They just announced Sunday on ESPN that he had second thoughts about turning Pro and reportedly would talk it over further with his family and announce his decision before the deadline.

Guess that was a short conversation if 2 days later there is news he’s picked an agent. Something tells me the “uncertain report” was just to grab alittle more attention from the media..

not the brightest bulb. Most of the salaries of draft positions are set by the cba ..he is wasting his cash. An attorney – any attorney could do a better job than giving an agent that large of a cut….It might be fine to hire someone to contact teams to determine interest – but his agent isnt’ going to get him a job.

Jollyjoker, agents do more than just negotiating contracts with teams. Among other things they also find & negotiate endorsements & you’d be a fool to think Johnny Football won’t be getting any endorsements.

Of course, the question will come up as to how “close” Johnny has been with LeBron and how “close” Johnny has been with Maverick Carter.

I think they should aim for the Nutella endorsement. They haven’t had an athlete endorsement since they dumped Kobe Bryant.

I’m sure he’ll get other endorsements, but my totally unscientific observation is that there are a surprising number of folks who don’t care one way or another about college football (hard to believe, right?) that just don’t like Johnny Manziel. It’s sort of interesting.

Maybe Johnny should have a few more beers before making an announcement or go to a Frat party

please dont come even near the bucs facility with your agent. that guy brought freeman to tampa. the bucs dont need another bust at qb.

A college kid drinking and going to a frat party. Shocking.

  14. jaclyn1973 says: Jan 7, 2014 10:29 PM

He went to a TEXAS frat party. Texas and A/M are not exactly BFF. It showed very poor judgement on his part. Just one of many examples. But hey, daddy is rich and the kid is gonna do what daddy tells him to do in regards to the NFL.

Johnny Football!! As long as my b!tches love me!!

This same story was reported 3 weeks ago and then denied by SSG the next day

  17. WACANHFL says: Jan 8, 2014 6:28 AM

Yup, just pointing out he’s a well known idiot that will not make it in the NFL…

  18. mogogo1 says: Jan 8, 2014 10:18 AM

With the new rookie salaries, agents must not be as excited about these hit-or-miss talents as they used to be. Pretty good chance Johnny will never see a huge NFL payday.

  19. 8to80texansblog says: Jan 8, 2014 10:29 AM

Why does everyone assume he won’t be successful at the next level. It is just jealousy that he leads the life that most of us dreamed of at 20 years old?

    His numbers this year:

    4114 Passing yds
    37 TDs
    13 INTs
    69.9% Completion
    9.6 Yds per attempt

Andrew Lucks passing numbers his last year at Stanford:

    3517 Yds
    37 TDs
    10 INTs
    71.2% Completion
    8.7 Yds per attempt

And that is completely ignoring his rushing stats…. This isn’t Case Keenum or Timmy Chang numbers playing against CUSA defenses, this was against Alabama and Auburn and the SEC. A conference that is littered with future NFL players on defense.

Johnny Manziel’s NFL success will be defined by where he goes and what kind of coach/system he gets placed into.

Apparently he declared today. I’m sure there will be an article in a few minutes of CFT.

Well, I saw Gil Brandt had tweeted this…

    Gil Brandt ‏@Gil_Brandt
“To be clear, Manziel has officially submitted declaration papers to #NFL for inclusing in 2014 draft, part of record 80 underclassmen.”

I haven’t seen anyone else though saying he is declaring for the draft.
