Florida State returns breakout players for 2014 run

Florida State is already lining up a solid roster for a chance to defending their championship title in 2014. In addition to the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Jameis Winston, a pair of First Team All-ACC offensive linemen and top two wide receivers, the Seminoles announced a few more key players who will be returning for one more season in Tallahassee on Thursday.

Running back Karlos Williams, tight end Nick O’Leary and left guard Josue Matias will all return to the team in 2014. All were starters in the 2013 season, including in the BCS Championship game victory over Auburn. According to David Hale of ESPN.com, a decision from leading rusher Devonta Freeman is expected to be made by Monday, with the deadline looming for underclassmen to declare for the NFL Draft.

Williams was the second leading rusher behind Freeman in 2013. Williams rushed for 730 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Seminoles. Williams was moved from defensive back to help provide some depth at the position but his athleticism quickly made him a key contributor on the offensive side of the football almost immediately after being inserted in the backfield.

O’Leary was Florida State’s top tight end in the 2013 season. He finished the season fourth on the team’s receiving list with 557 yards and seven touchdowns. Matias will join returning All-ACC linemen Cameron Irving and Tre’ Jackson to provide protection for Winston and create running lanes for the ground game.
