QB-turned-DB Kiehl Frazier leaving Auburn

In mid-August, once-touted recruit Kiehl Frazier moved from offense to defense.  Five months later, the player is moving on from the Auburn football program entirely.

Head coach Gus Malzahn, al.com is reporting, confirmed Friday that Frazier has decided to transfer from the Tigers.  The stated reason, Malzahn said, is Frazier wants the opportunity to play quarterback again, which he very likely wouldn’t bet on The Plains.

A four-star member of AU’s 2011 recruiting class, Frazier was rated as the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the country and the No. 1 player at any position in the state of Arkansas.  Frazier was widely viewed as the future at the position, starting — and struggling immensely — the first five games of the 2012 season before giving way to Clint Moseley.

He was moved to defensive back midway through camp as the starting job was ultimately won by Nick Marshall, who went on to lead the Tigers to a BCS title game appearance.

I hate to see him go but he never really panned out in the QB position at AU. It just goes to show you that HS ratings really don’t mean much. I wish him luck at his next school and hope he does get to play QB if that is what he really wants to do. Sometimes change is good.

The title should read QB-turned-DB-turned-WR Kiehl Frazier leaving Auburn. Frazier switched to WR at the beginning of October. Come on guys get with it!

Hope things work out with this young man. He didn’t find success, but not for lack of trying. He was thrown into a bad situation with Chizik last year. Can’t help but think it affected his career.
