Report: Oregon secondary coach to interview for UAB head job

Oregon defensive back coach John Neal will interview this week for the vacant head coaching position at UAB, according to a report on Tuesday from AL.com.

Neal has been with the Ducks since 2003 and has a reputation for building ball-hawking secondaries. He has no college head coaching experience, though he was an assistant at UAB for the eight seasons prior to joining Oregon’s staff. He spent his last two seasons at UAB as defensive coordinator and was a candidate to become the Duck defensive coordinator when Nick Aliotti retired this past season.

The Blazers will also interview Cincinnati offensive coordinator Eddie Gran this week.

UAB is looking for a head coach because Garrick McGee resigned last week to become the offensive coordinator at Louisville. McGee was 5-19 in his two seasons at UAB.
