Report: Tyler Murphy, Addazio to stage reunion at BC

Nearly a month to the day he announced his transfer from Florida, Tyler Murphy has found a new college football home. And, as it turns out, the quarterback’s landing spot will include a very familiar face.

Jeremy Fowler of CBSSports.com, citing a source familiar with the situation, is reporting that Murphy has verbally committed to continue his playing career at Boston College. Fowler writes that the senior “is working to enroll as early as this week.”

BC is coached by Steve Addazio, who served as a Gators assistant from 2005-10. Murphy’s first year in the UF program was 2010.

Because he will have his degree in hand -- he graduated in December -- Murphy will be permitted to play immediately. He will also compete for the starting job as starter Chase Rettig recently completed his senior season.

After UF starter Jeff Driskel suffered a season-ending injury in the third game of the 2013 season, Murphy went on to start the next six games. Murphy’s own injury issues forced him out of the last three games of the season. The shoulder injury is expected to be rehabbed in time to allow Murphy to participate in BC’s spring practice sessions, Fowler notes.

Murphy was a two-star member of the Gators’ 2010 recruiting class, rated as the No. 10 player at any position in the state of Connecticut. The six games he started in 2013 were the only ones he started during his four years in Gainesville.
