Saban sends Tide players some 0-2 poster motivation

Nick Saban AP

After winning the previous two BCS titles and running through the first 11 games of the 2013 season without a loss, Alabama dropped its last two games of the year for the first time since 2008.

As you can expect, Nick Saban was not very pleased with that development.  And, to show his displeasure, he’s ensuring that none of his returning players forget how a season that began with thoughts of a three-peat ended in a pair of disappointing losses.

In a poster that appears above the locker of every UA player, the motivational message begins with the final scores of the Tide’s last two games: a 34-28 loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl and the 45-31 loss to Oklahoma in  the Sugar Bowl.  Below that is the message the Tide will carry with it through spring practice and summer camp and into the 2014 season:

“If you continue to do the same thing that you have always done you will get the same result. Guaranteed.  0-2″

It should read, “If we continue to play a soft schedule during the regular season by the time we play Auburn we will be exposed. “

  2. wadaea says: Jan 14, 2014 10:47 AM

It should also read after Kiffin visits and offered his advise here is the results.

You were almost correct. The most marshmallow of marshmallow schedules played by FSU damn near caught up with them against Auburn….well said….

Wow 2 losses in what like 20 games? Shame in them

I think OU should send a cease and desist order for using Aaron Colvin’s likeness and uniform without consent.

That’s it, Nick, it’s the players’ fault. Not the coaches’. The players called a time out to kick an impossible FG against Auburn…

Sucks being on the losing end of a highlight reel, doesn’t it?

Good job by Saban trying to look at ways to motivate his players. You can scheme all day but it’s ultimately up to the players to execute and the coaches are there to ensure they are ready. Saban and his staff are working on their part, and he wants to ensure the Player’s due their part, and it starts at the off-season.

on a side note…Alabama had a sos ranked 39 compared to FSU’s at 62, if you’re making fun of Bama’s SOS what does that say about the BCS champion FSU?

People will continue to hate SEC schools and fans for the simple fact they ARE fans of SEC schools. Nothing can be done about it. Everyone hates you when you’re at the top, it’s expected

great motivational tactic by Saban and im not even a Bama fan. and for those saying he needs to take up for his mistakes, If players play and coaches coach that saying applys to all because both work hand and hand. It goes unsaid, what more motivation do you need as a coach than get the job done are your fired. Think about it, how they feed their families are based on their success.

Huh. You must have been watching a different national championship than the one I saw.

Did Saban put one up on his own wall? They beat Auburn if Saban doesn’t make multiple coaching gaffes. (Passing up on a 40-yard field goal, only to later try a 57-yarder, not having his guys ready to cover a return of the missed FG, not letting McCarron pass to try and get them closer for the kick….) And the gameplan for OU didn’t look all that hot, either. Granted, having OU’s qb throw lasers all night was a surprise, but there weren’t many defensive adjustments even after they started getting burned.

Saban holds himself accountable trust me. He knows where he screwed up. He doesn’t run a program where he takes the credit for wins but players take blame for losses.
Funny, some people read weird garbage into stuff like this…spinning it to put down a coach they don’t like.
I’m an FSU fan, but also a fan of excellence. And, I think Saban’s track record speaks for itself with 4 NC’s.
The haters will certainly hate. But, the haters are also not 1/100th as accomplished in their own lives as Saban…but, take the shots anyway. Nick will hold his record up against the grandstand anytime I’d suspect.

Sorry guy, but the SEC isn’t dominace isn’t determined by one game. Even with the the loss Auburn suffered SEC still went 7-3 in bowl games this year, better than any other conference. SEC has 60+ win percentage in all BCS bowls(17-10), meaning we don’t win every game but most of the time we do. SEC is 8-1 in BCS title games, again we don’t win them all but 90% of the time we do.

That’s what you call dominance, you look at one game, I look at all SEC games. This year we didn’t win a BCS bowl game, still went 7-3 in ALL bowl games. That says more than just 1 game wouldn’t you think? But hey that’s just me

THE ACC isn’t the best game because FSU won isn’t? please say no, please

Sorry. If I did my job to the level that Saban does his, people would die and I’d get fired. He coaches a GAME!
As to “Think about it, how they feed their families are based on their success.”
You think Nick needs $7M to feed his family? Maybe you should adjust that bar a bit.

  19. mrtreyseven says: Jan 14, 2014 8:44 PM

@doctorlb the position coaches dont make even 1/4 of Saban contract. so the success of your DBs, or RBs, or LBs depends on how the position coaches feed their family. They dont succed they are fired and 2 if 90,000 people come week in and out to the home games spending 25+ on seats, not to mention the concessions a team gear people buy, Saban is earning his 7 mil it wasnt given, just like the coaches w/ players not performing, if Saban aint winning money is not being spent. Dont blame him, blame priorities of the people spending. I live in AL and he makes more than our Governor. He is the reason they are winning, STARS ARE NOT BORN, THEY ARE MADE; IT TAKES THE RIGHT COACH TO PUT YOU IN THE RIGHT POSITION TO SUCCEED….and fortunately but unfortunately for my school he is one of the best to do it

What’s Coach gonna do when the Tide opens the 2014 season with their 3rd consecutive loss when they fall to the Mountaineers in Atlanta?!? Aww forget it….I’m a huge Eer fan but it is gonna get out hand early….

imagine if UA or FSU had played OHIO ST. in the NC. EVERYONE could go to sleep before halftime with OSU down by 50 in the 2nd quarter. if UA and FSU had weak schedules , OSU had POP WARNER TEAMS. they got bucknuts , BUT ABSOLUTELY, NO PRIDE OR BALLS. next year they replace IOWA and NORTHWESTERN with RUTGERS and MARYLAND. THE JOKE KEEPS GROWING. EVERY TRUE FOOTBALL FAN ,TAKE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO ALERT THE NEW SELECTION COMMITTEE, OF THIS HABITUALLY WEAK SCHEDULE.
