Report: Tosh Lupoi agrees to separation deal with Washington

Embattled former Washington assistant coach Tosh Lupoi has reached a separation agreement with the Huskies that will pay him $300,000 to leave UW’s athletic department, the Seattle Times reported on Tuesday.

The Washington defensive line coach is under NCAA investigation for allegedly paying for a recruit’s tutoring last year. When news of the investigation came out, he was not retained on new coach Chris Petersen’s staff but was instead “reassigned” within the athletic department.

If the Huskies had fired Lupoi “without cause”, they would’ve owed him $350,000 under the terms of his contract. Had he been fired without cause before Jan. 13, he would’ve been paid $700,000. So Washington saved a few bucks on this deal.

Once considered a rising star in the coaching ranks and a top flight recruiter (although now his recruiting prowess makes a bit more sense), Lupoi will have a hard time finding employment again in college...unless he turns out to be exonerated by the NCAA investigation.
