UCLA loses DC Lou Spanos to Tennessee Titans

Lou Spanos

All of the sudden, Jim Mora has a rather significant hole on his coaching staff to fill.

The Tennessee Titans announced Saturday afternoon that the organization has hired what it describes as “former UCLA defensive coordinator” Lou Spanos.  Spanos will serve as the Titans’ linebackers coach.

UCLA has made no public comment on the defection.

Spanos had spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons with the Bruins.  Prior to that, he had spent his entire coaching career at the NFL level, mostly with the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The new Titans head coach, Ken Whisenhunt, was a Steelers assistant during a portion of Spanos’ time in Pittsburgh.

Under Spanos’ guidance, the Bruins were 35th in the country and fourth in the Pac-12 in points with 23.2 per game.
