Temple wide receivers coach Terry Smith will join James Franklin’s staff at Penn State, according to a report on Sunday from CoachingSearch.com.
Smith, a graduate of Penn State, spent one season with the Owls following 11 seasons as head coach of Gateway High School in Monroeville, Penn.
Given Franklin’s overarching emphasis on recruiting, bringing in Smith should help with prep connections in the southwest portion of the state, long known as a fertile area for talent.
No word yet on what role Smith will play on Franklin’s staff. Wide receivers coach Josh Gattis is already in place, so Smith might end up as the tight ends or defensive backs coach.
