Indiana confirms Brian Knorr’s move from Air Force

NCAA Football - Boston College Eagles vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons - November 6, 2010

Just 10 days ago, Air Force announced that Brian Knorr was returning to the service academy as an assistant coach.  Monday morning, that return officially became short-lived.

Following up on reports that surfaced Sunday, Indiana confirmed via a press release that Knorr has been added to head coach Kevin Wilson‘s IU staff.  Knorr will serve as defensive coordinator, replacing Doug Mallory.

Mallory was one of two Hoosier assistants dismissed Jan. 10.

“We want to welcome Brian and his family to the Hoosier Nation,” Wilson said in a statement. “Brian is a strong addition to our coaching staff. He brings tremendous experience and a solid background having coached on both sides of the ball, as a defensive coordinator and as an FBS head coach. We are excited to work together to take a positive step in building a winning program that our players and fans deserve.”

Aside from the 10-day stint with the Falcons, Knorr had spent the past three years at Wake Forest as coordinator and a linebackers coach.  Knorr, who played his college football at the service academy, had also served as head coach of the Ohio Bobcats (2001-04).

“Having known Coach Wilson for the past 20 years, his personality and the type of team he fields, I am excited to join his staff,” Knorr said. “There is a buzz about the direction IU Football is headed in and I look forward to bringing some of the toughness and aggressiveness that I know Coach Wilson wants to implement on the defensive side of the ball.”
