Report: Oklahoma CB Aaron Colvin tears ACL at Senior Bowl

Former Oklahoma cornerback Aaron Colvin was injured during Senior Bowl practices in Mobile, Ala., on Tuesday and the word is that he has torn his ACL, according to a Tweet from the NFL Network.

If true, the injury could effectively end Colvin’s rookie year before it begins. The just-graduated Sooner was one of the top cornerbacks in the country the last couple seasons. He had 55 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and an interception in 2013.

At 6-foot, 192 pounds, Colvin has the size and athleticism that the NFL craves and was likely to have been drafted in the first three rounds. Now, his draft stock will plummet, though some team will take him based purely on his potential. This time next year, when he is all healed up, he should be ready to take his place as a quality NFL corner.

UPDATE: Confirmation of the ACL tear was later Tweeted out by Colvin’s agent.

I hate to hear this as it affects him competing in the combines. This is exactly why some players skip this photo op totally…

McCarron pulling out doesn’t seem unanimously like a bad idea no longer.

I really hate to hear that for the kid. Hopefully he will be 100% soon. People drafted Adrian Peterson and Marcus Lattimore while their knees were hurt. Hopefully the same will happen for him and he will be a great db some day.

It would be prudent for games like this to carry insurance for participants that covers their estimated lost income should an injury occur. (Similar to what some players take out before their senior year.)

That would make it much more likely for top players to play in the game, and would take some of the sting out of situations like this one.

People mentioning Mccarron is funny… He was surrounded by a good D. He won’t play in the NFL

Had the pleasure of watching AC play the last four years in person in Norman and some games on the road. Very good played and proud to call a Sooner – one of the greats, which when you have a program as deeped in as much traidion as Oklahoma – that is saying something for sure. Hope for a speedy recovery. He can be a solid pro.

And this is why so many decline to play in all star exhibition games
