Report: Oklahoma QB Kendal Thompson to transfer

Kendal Thompson AP

Oklahoma quarterback Kendal Thompson has decided to transfer after graduating this coming May, reported on Tuesday.

It’s hard to blame him. The sophomore is currently stuck behind both Trevor Knight and Blake Bell on the depth chart and, with Knight having three years of eligibility left, Thompson was unlikely to get much playing time in the next season or two.

Thompson attempted 13 passes this past fall and completed four of them for 64 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed for 20 yards on four carries.

Since he’s graduating this spring, he should be able to play immediately next fall under the graduate transfer rule. Otherwise, he’ll have to either sit out one year or move to the FCS level.

Despite Thompson’s departure, OU should be fine depth-wise next season. They’ll have redshirt freshman Cody Thomas behind Knight and Bell, as well as true freshman Justice Hansen.

Did I read this right. He is a sophomore and he graduated? How the hell does that happen? I thought college was a four year deal, this kids got to be some student. Good luck to him.

@pdcooper08 he very well may be an excellent student but a college players take classes during summer sessions when they are going through camp and a lot of times players stay at school and take a class or two while they work out with teammates. Good luck to him

I think he’s probably a Sophomore “on the field” meaning redshirt sophomore but a Junior academically, meaning he still probably added an extra class here or there and took summer courses…good for him.
