After spending the entire 2013 season as BYU’s No. 2 quarterback, Ammon Olsen is headed back to where he first came from.
School officials confirmed Tuesday that Olsen has decided to take his leave of the Cougars football program and transfer to the FCS level. Specifically, Olsen will transfer to Southern Utah University.
Prior to his arrival in Provo in 2012 -- and prior to a LDS mission in 2010-11 -- Olsen played quarterback for SUU.
Olsen’s decision to transfer is directly related to two factors: the presence of undisputed starter Taysom Hill, and the fact that Hill still has two years of eligibility remaining.
Last year, Olsen played in four games and attempted three more passes than I did. He took a redshirt for the 2012 season.
The Deseret News writes that, "[w]ith Olsen leaving, BYU’s likely backup for Hill will be either senior Christian Stewart or sophomore Billy Green.”
