Ohio State officially announces Chris Ash as co-DC/safeties coach

Nine days after his hire was first reported, Ohio State announced Chris Ash as the team’s co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.

Ash will earn $520,000 after jumping from Arkansas, where he served as Bret Bielema’s defensive coordinator (and made more money). He’ll share defensive coordinator duties with Luke Fickell at Ohio State.

“I was attracted to this position because it is Ohio State,” Ash said in a statement (via the Columbus Dispatch), “and I had to wonder if I ever would have this opportunity again. This is one of the top five college football programs in the country. It has tremendous history and tradition, and it is a great academic institution.

“The opportunity to work for Coach Meyer and to learn as a part of his staff will absolutely enhance my knowledge of the game and my coaching experiences.”

So Ash took $30,000 less to be a co-defensive coordinator under Urban Meyer than being *the* defensive coordinator under Bielema. Oof Pig Sooie.
