South Carolina State player killed in campus shooting

On Friday afternoon there was a tragic shooting on another college campus, this time claiming the life of a football player. Brandon Robinson, a linebacker and defensive end for South Carolina State, was the victim of a shooting incident outside a campus dorm. According to a statement released by South Carolina State, Robinson was rushed to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced dead.

“We are at loss for words right now,” said South Carolina State head coach Buddy Pough. “The entire university and our athletic family are grieving right now and our hearts are heavy. Our deepest condolences go out to the Robinson family.”

Robinson played in four games this past season and was an industrial engineering major.

“Brandon was a fine young man who was paying his way through college,” Poug continued in the statement. “All he wanted to do was play football for the university. It’s a tragic situation, one from which we all must learn.”

According to reports, authorities have arrested and charged the shooter, Justin Bernard Singleton. The arrest was made Saturday morning and Singleton was charged with murder.
